Personal Photo-shoots

This is my Personal Photo-shoots page where I will be displaying all of my personal work that I will do outside of uni time.At the moment I have a small make-do studio set up in my garage which comes in very useful, it contains two studio lights , a soft box and an umbrella and reversible black and white backdrop. I am also hoping to purchase a barn-door modifier  with a set of colour gels. Here is some of my earlier on-location work before I had my studio set up.

Stacey photo-shoot one

Stacey Photo-shoot 2

Although I enjoyed doing location shoots, once id got my lights and backdrop setup in my garage I felt confident and was eager to photograph in studio style conditions I decided to make a Facebook page to promote my new business scheme ads stated I would charge 20 pound for a photoshoot as I was doing it to gain experience and the money was just a bonus. I asked one of my friends to do a first photo shoot for practice and here are the photographs that Came out of it.I was nervous before doing this even though it was just for practice as I didn't know much about my camera settings at this point and was still learning but I feel as though I learnt from my first photo shoot in my home made studio setup.

After re-evaluating these photographs I can see how much I have improved and learnt to experiment more with my lighting and settings on my camera.

First Paid Photo shoot
After my first practicing shoot in my studio setup My cousin was interested in a photoshoot , I was nervous as she was my first paying client but I was excited to see what the outcome would be. My cousin turned up to the photo-shoot with many outfits to change into , she wanted normal clothing and underwear shots, I didnt realise that it would take 5 hours until the shoot was done, this was partly because of how many outfits she had brought and also my inability to use my camera correctly, I still charged her 20pounds but she gave me 30 because she liked the photos so much.I learnt after this shoot that in the future I was to charge 30pounds for an hours photo shoot and also specify how many images i would put on a disc -20-30 and if the shoot was to run over an hour the charge would be £10pounds. Here are some of the photographs from the shoot. In most of my photographs I started to put my business name on the bottom of the photographs , but I am thinking of a more professional watermark rather than just an italic font.

First male model

I realised  after looking back at my photographs that I didn't have many male models for my portfolio so I decided to ask one of my cousins if I could use them for some photographs, It didn't last long as he was very nervous but i manage to get a few good shots worth keeping.

They are all quite similar but I tried to edit them all differently to try and create a different mood, I like the overall outcome considering how much time we had I think they look similar to H&M fashion photos. I would like to take more photographs of males to build up my portfolio and I am currently looking for male models to do this.

Stacey photo shoot two - 50s pin up girl

My cousin stacey wanted another photo-shoot, but this time she wanted more underwear shots, I had a stroke of inspiration and really wanted to do a 50s pin up girl photo shoot, I looked at images on google such as these:

I looked at the props and clothing used and bought and went out and bought a vintage cake stand , an old dial up phone and Lacey  pinny  a feather duster and an oven glove as i wanted to create the perfect housewife but pin up style. I then looked at photos that other people had taken, again on google to look at different poses:

I began to notice the repetition with this pose so I decided to try it out in my photographs, here are someof my photos. I tried to use the same pastel colour scheme in my photographs to the ones I had seen on the internet.

Here are some more photographs using different poses and viewpoints. I also wanted to take some photographs using 50/60s style clothing as I had some 50s style clothing and a small suitcase I wanted to incorporate into the shots.

Stacey also requested normal photographs without the 50s pinup girl theme so I decided to use my black backdrop as I had never used it before and I tried to do some low key lighting.

Japanese themed Photo shoot
A lot of my family of very supportive of me and my photo shoots and are often out buying me props that I would use, my nan bought me a Japanese umbrella and I wanted to put it to use in a photo shoot, I decided to ask my auntie who is philipino if she would be a model for in a Japanese style photo shoot. Again I looked at other photographs on the internet to get inspiration from them. Here are some of my photographs. As with my other themed photo-shoots I have taken photographs of the models in their own personal clothing , just for practice.

As the client was a family member it wasn't I wasn't as nervous but I still found it hard to get into it at first but once I made my client feel comfortable I did as well. I wanted use a strict colour scheme in my japanese style photos , green, gold and red , and I kept to calm and suttral colours in the standard practice photographs. I like the overall outcome and I am currently thinking of more themed photo-shoot ideas for the future.

First Unknown client

For this shoot I was recommended by a friend of mine to a family of four living near by, they contacted me and asked if it was possible for me to do a photo shoot for there two 1 and two year old girls and herself and her husband as gifts for the family and offered me £50 for the shoot, I was obviously pleased and eager to do the shoot as it was a huge step for me to do a shoot with a family I had never met before, something which I would have to get used to when it becomes my profession. I was nervous on the day and couldn't stop thinking the worst. Here are some of the photographs from the shoot.

I tried to do a range of different photos and edits with the photographs I managed to get, obviously it was difficult to photograph the girls together as they were so young and easily distracted, It was definitely the most challenging photo shoot I have done up-to now, even though they are not my best photographs it was the hardest task to try to photograph them as a family whilst dealing with the girls getting distracted easily. After the photo shoot I invited vicky back to view the photographs and she was pleased with the result and paid me in full, I was so pleased with myself and felt I gained more confident to do more photo shoots with people id never met, it was a huge learning curve for me.

Betty - photographing animals

One of my mums friends had bought a new puppy and I suggested for practice that it would be good to take some photographs of her as I had never worked with animals in the studio setup. Here are some of my photographs from the shoot.

The overall experience was hard work and very challenging. It was hard to keep the animal entertained whilst taking the photographs, For the future I will think about how to keep animals entertained whilst taking photos of them and also how to prevent accidents caused such as young animals needing to go outside, At the time I couldn't prevent the animal going to the toilet on my backdrop but I will think of ways for in  the future.

Ruby Ellen - photographing newborns

One of my friends sisters had a baby a few weeks ago and asked me if I would do a photo shoot of her and the baby, this was a whole new experience for me as Id never photographed a baby as young as 2 weeks old, I decided to research mother and baby photography, here are some of the photographs I looked to find inspiration for my photographs.

I looked at the colour schemes used and found that majority of the images where black and white if not soft colours or minimal colours. I also looked at the poses and the positions the photographer put them in. I tried some of these and here was my outcome.

I am really happy with the photographs but because I had difficulties with my external flashes as they didn't always go off , some of the photographs have noise on them but I didn't think that it what that obvious and so edited them as my favourites anyway, the client was more than happy with the photographs and has said she will being coming back for a 'watch me grow' package and get me to photograph Ruby every other month to see her progress.
